I passed the 20K mark today. Go me! Not bad for the year. Considering job and family obligations, feel pretty good about that. Most importantly I’ve been enjoying the writing. I’m not saying it’s world class, no edits needed. It’s just progress toward that greater goal. Well, back to work.

Joshua is a writer of SFF, leaning more to the fantasy side of the genre. Travel the road with me as I tell the stories.

  1. As you can see by how well I’ve been keeping up with my blog reading and replies, I understand the obligation thing. It’s all good though. I feel like when I do things at my own pace I tend to get more enjoyment out of them. That’s not to say a goal is a good thing, but I prefer loose goals (I will write every day) instead of a stringent goal (I will write 1000 words every day)to keep me in line. I find myself often exceeding the original goal because the pressure isn’t there and I’m doing something for the sake of enjoyment and doing it instead of meeting a quote.

    1. For me it is a little of both. I don’t want a goal of “writing more” as writing anything could constitute more and I could slack off after 1 paragraph and not make much progress. With a hard goal I can make sure I definitley have progress, then I have a soft goal of writing more than the hard goal. Convoluted? Perhaps. I was finding myself “slacking” more with the soft goal last year of writing more. This year I feel like I am making actual progress and finishing stories.

Of course there are still the days where I don’t feel like doing anything. I don’t beat myself up over it, just try to make up the goal over the next few days. Overall, I’m ahead. One day something will come of it.
